Volunteer for our Fundraiser Casino 2022

We need you! Programs, events and community buildings require many different funding sources. 

If you have some time to volunteer for one or both of our casino dates, your time contribution will directly sustain our ability to build community and connect neighbours.

Community Ski Night
Dec 18th, 2021

TRAC is hosting the 1st Annual Southwest Community League Ski Night:

Saturday, December 18th, 2021 from 6 - 9 PM.
Cost is $25 for all ages (lift ticket, rentals & lesson if needed)

Email the number of tickets you would like to purchase and an e-transfer for payment. Tickets can be picked up at Snow Valley at the start of the event or at the TRAC office in the Terwillegar Rec Centre if pre-arranged by email. Snow Valley is following the Covid restrictions exemption, you can find details on their policies here.

Do you live on an Awesome Block?

Are your neighbours kind, helpful and friendly? Do you take care of each other in tough times? Do you celebrate together and make sure everyone is included?

 The City of Edmonton is looking for the most Awesome Blocks in the city!

Share a story about what your block does that makes it special, an event they hold that is helping neighbours connect or something inspirational that has happened where you live. You can also share photos and videos! 

The deadline for submitting nominations is 12pm (noon) MST, on Sunday August 22, 2021.

Want to Host a Block Party or Play Street?

The focus of Block Parties is on building connections and relationships between neighbours living in the same street. 

The idea of a Play Street is to bring neighbours together for celebration or play. They allow neighbours to play together in residential streets closed off to vehicle traffic. 

The City supports both Block Parties and Play Street events through planning, operational and permitting support. The purpose of the Block Party and Play Street program is to connect neighbours living in the same street (i.e. not intended for larger events that invite the general public to attend).

Be sure to submit your applications at least 14 days before your event.

2021 OHCL Pop-Up Community Garden

We are proud to open the Oak Hills Community League (OHCL) Pop-Up Community Garden for the 2021 summer/fall season. Join your neighbours for a fun and productive activity outside. 

The Garden is located in the green space at the corner of Leger Way NW and Leger Rd NW. Approximate location is 715 Leger Way NW.

Weather-permitting, the OHCL Pop-Up Community Garden will be open June 10, 2021 through October 2021.

Capital City Cleanup Day in Oak Hills
May 22, 2021, 10am-2pm

Join neighbours, bring a rake/leaf blower, pruning shears, garden gloves and lets get to work on cleaning up and refreshing entry boulevards. 

This one day event will help beautify the planting beds and keep Oak Hills beautiful! The task will be to remove litter, cleanup weeds and remove dead vegetation at all  the Leger and Carter Crest Entry Boulevards / decorative fence-lines.

Virtual Wine @5 - Friday March 12

A virtual hour to socialize, meet neighbours, listen to guest speakers and have some great conversations. Each month we will announce a new guest, celebrate someone in our neighbourhood, share stories and in an hour…start the weekend off together!

This month join guest Sommelier, Dr Robert Agostinis and other fellow neighbours for a sip and social for 1 hour.

Virtual Watercolour Painting Class

Grab a paint brush and your favorite beverage, and enjoy an introduction to watercolour painting by our guest artist and instructor, Willie Wong. Let the fun and creativity begin! Watercolour painting materials and supplies will be provided to the first 30 to sign up. The event is hosted on Zoom virtual platform. All ages and abilities welcome, FREE to members of Oak Hills and nearby TRAC community leagues as well as South West Seniors Association.

Cycle Club - Oak Hills

Join the club, and log your cycling kms using the Strava app. Help Oak Hills accumulate the most KMs in June, for a cross-city Community-League bike challenge.

Help us reaching a collective 2009 km, as a commemorative to our 10th year as a community league, which started in 2009. We are competing with other Leagues to see who can get the highest total kms in June. Tell your neighbours! Let's do this together!

Peeling paint, discoloration and non-uniform paint application makes our community look less desirable, encourages graffiti and shows an apathy to maintain our properties. We will be observing physical distancing, and gathering maximums.

Art Walk in Oak Hills 2020

Let’s celebrate our children’s curiosity, skills and knowledge. Growing Up Dayhome Care is co-hosting a child-inspired Art Walk along Latta Crescent near Leger Blvd. The children will have artwork displayed on outside fences for you to enjoy! 

PLUS Bring your own chalk to contribute your OWN art on a square of the sidewalk nearby!

Neighbourhood Cleanup

Spring is here, with its wonderful weather, new blooms, and green grass, and the annual blowing tumbleweeds of litter.

Oak Hills Community League has 5 Capital City Cleanup kits to hand out, which include: 

• A hands-free litter grabber

• Bags, gloves and other supplies

While out on our walks, it would be easy to bring along a picker and tidy up the paths, walkways, and streets as we go! We envision this evolving over the season into a more regular group, or club of community beautification champions.

Join this FREE seminar for an informative workshop on transforming your yard into a sustainable, food-producing and ecological oasis.

Learn about permaculture, a system of design inspired by nature to meet the needs of humans and improve our world for future generations. We'll delve into techniques for water conservation, food production, composting, soil health and more.

There will be lots of time for questions and to workshop your ideas and plans for your yard and for your neighbourhood!

Stay Connected: Nextdoor

Nextdoor is a platform that is being used by over 200 neighbors in our community to share local recommendations, items for sale, safety tips, crime awareness, and local events. It is also a great way to get to know one another better and to stay current on what is happening in your area. 

Nextdoor verifies community members are actual residents. So you can control what content you see, as well as who sees your content by sharing just to your neighbourhood, or also to nearby neighbourhoods (Terwilleger, Riverbend, Hodgson, etc).  

CPR & First Aid Training

Join us for CPR, First Aid, and AED training provided by a certified Red Cross instructor. Help make our communities a safer place by training for how to help in the initial steps of choking, unconsciousness, or a sudden collapse that results in cardiac arrest and potentially save a life!
